Cancer registries training course focused on Enlargement and Integration Countries

The aim of the training is to provide cancer registries staff with an understanding of good practices and procedures to establish/improve their registries and harmonise their process for collection of cancer data. This will facilitate inter-comparative studies on specific cancer types which in turn will help steer and appraise European, National and Regional cancer policy programmes.

The workshop will focus on the following topics:

  • Cancer Registry data: purposes, definition and data collection
  • Data classification and coding, ENCR guidelines
  • Data quality and completeness
  • Basic concepts in descriptive epidemiology
  • Using registry data in cancer survival analysis and reporting
  • Implementation of all registry functions by means of the IARC CANREG-5 software

The training will also provide participants with good networking opportunities, particularly with regard to developing closer links with the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) and the international cancer community through the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the new IARC Regional Hub for Cancer Registration in Turkey.

The course is intended for population-based cancer registry staff and managers, especially those charged with establishing or upgrading registries and for new staff working in cancer registration.

The course is limited to 45 participants who will be selected among the applicants coming from one of the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Faroe Island, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Iceland, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Kuwait, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Norway, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Oman, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Sudan, Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Western Sahara.

The working language of the course will be English, and participants will be expected to have sufficient knowledge of spoken and written English to participate actively.
