A special issue was published in September 2017 dedicated to cancer registration in Europe. This edition was planned in
parallel with the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) and Joint Research Centre's (JRC) biennial Scientific
Meeting and General Assembly, in Baveno in October 2016.
Contributions were selected from dedicated abstracts that were submitted in parallel with abstracts for the scientific conference.
This special issue includes articles on incidence and survival estimation and trends; territorial inequalities and cancer;
risk factors; mental health and cancer; and data completeness and evaluation. These articles highlight the crucial role
cancer registries play in cancer research and policy- making and the importance of the ENCR and JRC for "EU-added
value" including supporting cancer research dissemination, harmonising cancer registration in Europe and in ensuring
exchange of best practice.
