Bulgaria's First National Colorectal Cancer Screening Campaign Yields Promising Results

Bulgaria's first national colorectal cancer (CRC) screening campaign, conducted from March 28 to June 30, 2024, tested over 93,000 people, making it the largest CRC screening initiative in the country. The campaign, which provided free iFOBT screening tests, was recognized with the Effie Bulgaria Silver Award for communication effectiveness. Early detection through this campaign could contribute over EUR 15.9 million to GDP and save EUR 13.8 million in healthcare costs by 2029. The results of the program provide valuable data to inform cancer surveillance, health planning, and registry development in Bulgaria, where CRC is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy.
