New long‑term estimates of cancer incidence and mortality are now available for EU‑27 and EFTA countries in the European Cancer Information System (ECIS), extending projections up to 2050. These estimates build on the 2024 ECIS incidence and mortality estimates and use different population projections by Eurostat to quantify the expected evolution of the cancer burden over the coming decades.
The long‑term estimates section of the ECIS Data Explorer has been revamped to provide clearer visualisations and easier access to country‑ and cancer‑specific trends over time. Users can explore incidence and mortality trajectories by cancer site, sex and country, and download the underlying data for further analysis.
ECIS long‑term estimates are the result of a collaborative project involving the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) and the International Association of Cancer Registries (IACR).
